What is Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise using a floor mat or equipment and your own body weight as resistance while working through a variety of movements. It is a balanced blend of strength and flexibility training aimed to re-balance the body so no muscle group is overworked or ignored.  It can help alleviate back pain and other chronic ailments as well as increase your performance in sports. The exercises focus on quality of movement rather than quantity, which makes one feel invigorated rather than exhausted after a session.

Pilates suits almost everyone from dancers to rugby players, young adults to seniors, men or women.  The controlled exercises create a fusion of mind and body because Joseph Pilates believed his method used the mind to control the muscles.  Soon your body will begin to move with ease, grace and balance.
The Practice of Pilates
Whilst working one-to-one with an instructor is ideal, group sessions allow an economic alternative for many clients' busy schedules.
Classes are kept small, a maximum of 8 per class, to ensure the integrity of the exercises and instruction.  Classes run for 60 minutes and are progressive, therefore booked in blocks of 10 weeks so clients can build their technique and perfect their form for maximal performance. Pilates is an art, similar to martial arts or dance and requires regular practice to achieve perfection.

Many people find that individualized attention and privacy away from a class works best for them and book private appointments or
semi-private sessions with a friend.  Whether you are new to Pilates or have been practicing for years, private sessions are a great way to perfect your technique and customize the workouts to your body and goals.

Although any form of exercise is highly beneficial, the focus on quality of movement is what sets Pilates apart and makes it the hour you look forward to most in your day.
